As for gameplay mods and animated tails, they typically require Island Living since they rely on mermaid powers and the occult system.

What is The Sims 4 Island Living?
Island Living is an official EA expansion pack that introduces the tropical world of Sulani, where Sims can swim in the open ocean, lounge on beaches, snorkel, build sandcastles, and even become mermaids.

The pack adds a full mermaid occult system, complete with tails, powers, hydration needs, and unique abilities. It also adds island jobs, festivals, ocean conservation gameplay, and new Create-a-Sim items inspired by Polynesian culture. It’s the core foundation for most mermaid gameplay mods and animated tails.

Is Sims 4 Mermaid CC safe after recent patches?

Most CAS items are safe, but script-based gameplay mods and animated tails may need updates after big patches. Always check the creator’s post for the last update date and patch notes before installing.

Why do my mermaid tails appear glitchy or stiff?

Some tails are decorative only, meaning they don’t have full swimmable animations. For smooth movement, look for tails labeled “animated,” “Island Living compatible,” or “replaces EA tail mesh.” Avoid mixing multiple tail mods at once, as conflicts can cause stretching.

The Expanded Mermaids 2.0 turns mermaids into a full occult system with skills, ranks, perks, weaknesses, spells, and new gameplay interactions both on land and underwater.

This update adds:

• New ocean interactions
  Mermaids can Dive Underwater, Dive Deeper, Fetch Fish, Search for Ambergris, Sleep Below the Surface, or Dive for Kelp, each with unique outcomes, collectibles, and rewards depending on where they swim. Note that some interactions require a Fitness level or are tied to perk progress, which makes underwater exploration feel more active and meaningful.
• Mermaid Ranks & XP
  Mermaids now gain power like spellcasters and vampires.
  • Mermaid Rank has 5 levels and unlocks special perks, abilities, and interactions.
  • Mermaid XP has 3 levels and works like a perk cycle—once you reach level 3, you select a perk, and the skill resets so you can earn the next one.
• Aquatic perks and weaknesses

This mod was last updated on September 18th for the Enchanted EP. As an installation tip:

Remove any older version of the mod before adding this one. The creator recommends placing every file directly into your main Mods folder, especially the .ts4script file, and unpacking subfolders if items don’t appear in-game.

This entire pack is FILLED with sea-inspired items.

They all give me a “mermaid’s night out” kind of a vibe.

With or without a tail your mermaid won’t feel like a fish out of water as long as they have these fishionable items.

These are the perfect addition to your mermaid’s tail and scaly top.

They are maxis match, come in 21 EA swatches, and really tie the whole look together!

Like with a lot of stuff in this post, in order to use this particular sims 4 cc, you will need to have the Island Living pack.

34. Sims 4 Toddler Mermaid Tail by Merman Simmer Studio

Unfortunately, this isn’t a toddler mermaid mod like I know a lot of simmers want, but it’s close!

To give the aesthetic of having a mermaid toddler, this toddler tail is PERFECT!

You’ll need to first download the ‘no feet‘ mod linked on the download page, then the cc tail, and it should show up in CAS when creating your toddler.
